This book was a compelling read for me. The writing pulled me into the character's environment and feelings. When I first finished it, I did not like the ending. After a few days, I am not sure I like it, but I understand it more. Overall it was enjoyable and thought provoking.
The most interesting part was the links which were woven into The Giver and Gathering Blue. Thought provoking, but I wanted a little more depth to those characters. I had to depend on what I knew of them from the prior books, as if they had not grown or changed a lot since then. It seemed a little bit too neat and tidy.
Reading this in an election year is very scary!!! Also, it seriously makes me want to walk up to everyone in a military uniform and thank them.
This book has its ups and downs. There were stretches where I thought I would not make it through, but slogged on. There were other parts that were a thrill ride and I could not put it down. I am still digesting the ending, still not sure if it is satisfying or not.
